LPC have worked with this overseas client for over thirty years and have supported the business with their continued expansion on their original site. The business source and develop global food brands and supplies to businesses and consumers alike.
The site stores and distributes across all temperature regimes. LPC has supported and designed all the facilities expansion of the site over time. The most recent challenge has been to further expand the multiple chambers on a site that is landlocked with development height restrictions with little to no opportunity to increase the current footprint.
An opportunity arose to acquire a small parcel of land that would integrate to the main site and open the opportunity to consider concepts for master planning the expansion of the operation.
Numerous options were developed that needed to consider a 5 to 10 year growth plan, the feasibility of developing the site with the least amount of disruption to the day to day operation whilst delivering on storage capacity requirements, minimal uplift in labour requirements, additional goods doors, vehicle staging, car parking and ancillary yard activities.
The schemes considered incorporating automated shuttle racking for increased dense storage capacity, constructing an elevated yard to receive and despatch on different yard levels, car parking below ground and above a chill despatch chamber, part demolition and construction of a new freezer and chill facility that would be more optimally sized and located to facilitate denser storage and vehicle reticulation around the site.
