Comag Forward initially operated out of two separate premises making it difficult for the operation to operate effectively in maintaining a high quality and effective service to its customers.

The then existing facilities in Coventry handled a total of nearly 90,000 tonnes of product, equivalent to over 7,400 tonnes per month. Bulk delivery was made to some 84 wholesalers in the UK, who in turn delivered to approximately 50,000 outlets.

Value Added operations such as returns, barcoding and other activities were undertaken in a separate facility.

The overall objective was to significantly improve the operation by consolidating into one distribution centre to meet all present activities with a long-term project growth plan.

LPC were engaged to plan the warehouse layout and external utilities taking into account product lines and stockholdings in consideration with growth, seasonality, volume throughput fluctuations, value added functions, order assembly and load marshalling, vehicle loading and despatch to name but a few considerations.

In addition LPC were retained in a project management capacity to plan and administer and oversee the procurement, installation, testing, snagging and commissioning of the mechanical handling, storage and ancillary equipment installations, working closely with Comag Forwards developers design team.
